I was so happy to be able to go see it in English- (not even with German subtitles!) On the way back we stopped for some coffees and then started back to Biedenkopf (about a 25 minute drive.) There were 2 cars driving, I was with the car in front and as we were about 6 miles from Biedenkopf, (she was driving about 160 k/hour), we ran full-blast into a big animal. I'm not sure what it was- but it definately wasn't something we have back in Iowa. (It was kind of a cross between a dog and a raccoon) It was a huge hit- it blew out the front plastic on the headlights and thumped about 4 times- we immediately pulled over (by this point it was about 2:30 in the morning). The other car was right behind us and they pulled over- they turned the car off but kept the headlights on so we could see the damage on the car.
At this point, everyone had gotten frantic, so they were talking in really fast German (I was lost....). They called the police and we had to wait for about an hour for them to get there, clear the animal out of the road (and the guts- it was so nasty) and assess the damage on the car. That took about a half hour, then Laura (the girl driving the car that got hit), drove it to the nearest town for it to sit til the morning- so the rest of us were jammed into the other car. Well, that car wouldn't start, since the lights were left on for so long.... so we ended up pushing it half a mile before it started- then we had to go to the town Laura was at and get someone elses car so that we all could sit-- that took about another 40 minutes.... o dear it was such a long night.
I finally got back to the house at about 4:50 a.m., just in time to sleep for 5 hours and get up again. Oh Harry Potter, I don't think you were worth the trouble last night.... but I've come to terms with it.
I'm taking the girls to Harry Potter tonight at 8- this time it will all be in German (no subtitles, just dubbed over voices), so I'm praying that the drive will be safe- this drive is only about 10 minutes, so I hope this Harry Potter expedition is more successful than last nights.
It was so funny because the whole time this was happening, they were all apologizing saying "Oh you're never going to want to come back to Germany ever again, are you?" and "We're so sorry this had to happen to you within your first week in Germany!". They were funny. Here's a fun picture we took outside the movie theater. It was such a cool theater- complete with a very realistic-looking Captain Jack Sparrow statue. I was so tempted to take a picture with it, but then I thought I had already made it obvious that I'm a dumb American because I couldn't effectively order popcorn, so I didn't want to make myself look any stupider.
