Life in the South

Funny how at certain times during our lives it seems like time is either dragging by or flying by. This stage in my life is definitely flying by. I've been in Columbia, South Carolina for over a month now. Wow. Seems surreal to say. So what have I been doing the past 5 weeks? I'm glad you asked, let me tell you. :)

Training for my new job.
Working as a hall director has already proven to be quite the eventful position. 3 fire alarms in 3 weeks, breaking up a smoking party and a very serious and sad legal situation have shown me that the next year is going to be a continuous time of learning. I've realized that there is no way to anticipate the things I might encounter on the job, sure I can be trained in all the different areas, but this is the kind of job that requires flexibility. As much as things are going to be unpredictable, the past RHD Nick has done a great job of training me and showing me the ropes. Thanks Nick for putting up with my endless amount of questions! :)

Getting my "craft" on.
I've enjoyed using my down time to write some music and also to get my craft on! I use to craft a lot when I was younger (thanks Grandma!!) and through Pinterest, I've discovered some really cute and easy DIY (do it yourself) crafts. Since I have my own place now, I've decided to try and spruce it up a bit...

Getting connected.
I've met some amazing new friends through Riverbend Church. It has been a tremendous blessing to get hooked into so quickly with a solid group of people. I have been able to play guitar and help with music at house church, which has given me my "music fix" that helps me keep my sanity. :)
Since a photo is worth a thousand words, here are a few more to save me excessive typing...

"The Fellowship of the Ringpop". This is my friend Lydia and I right before seeing "Brave" at a drive-in. First time at a drive-in, it was a blast!

USC President's Mansion right in the center of campus

First time trying southern sweet tea. I'm hooked!!
I'm still getting used to all the bugs and animals down here. Can't seem to get away from them!

A friend from my cohort, Chris, and I on the 4th of July. We went to a picnic on the river with some friends from church!
Midwest gals represent in S.C.! Two Minnesotans and one Iowan. :)

Some friends and I had a girls night that consisted of henna, belly dancing and
way too much fun!

The rocks on the river, my favorite place to read and journal. Haven't been able to go for a week though because it has been so hot. 110 degree weather is not fun!

There's my update for now. Hope all is well friends! Lots of love from South Carolina. :)
