Diane Johnson and I have started going through the study "Calm my Anxious Heart" together. It's about the journey to finding contentment and putting your life and circumstances in the hands of our Creator. It has been such a fresh breeze in my life this past week. In the very first chapter, it lists Ella Spees' (she was a missionary with the pygmies in Africa for 52 years) prescription for contentment. So simple yet so practical:
*Never allow yourself to complain about anything- not even the weather
*Never picture yourself in any other circumstances or someplace else
*Never compare your lot with another's
*Never allow yourself to wish this or that had been otherwise
*Never dwell on tomorrow- remember that (tomorrow) is God's, not ours.
I love it when God just opens my eyes to something by something as simple as a picture, book, talk or movie. It's always like such a fresh breeze in this life. It's just a reminder that He is there. And He cares.
"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength."
